If like me, you love Crystals for more than their natural beauty and like to draw on their healing powers, you’ll know that it is important to cleanse your crystals regularly.
Crystals are powerful energy healers and many absorb surrounding energies. This is great when using them to rebalance yourself and cleanse any negativity as they can hold onto these vibrations for you. However if you do not cleanse your crystals between uses, you may well be carrying previous negative energy back into your life again.
When should I cleanse my Crystals?
If you are using your crystals for any healing work, it is highly recommended to cleanse them after each and every session.
If you wear your crystals on jewellery and in stressful environments, cleansing them at least once a week will help you to receive maximum benefit from them.
If you have recently purchased or inherited a new crystal, you should cleanse them before using for healing. Many people may have handled your crystal, who knows what energy it may have come into contact with.
If you feel like they need it. It may sound silly but your intuition is a powerful thing and if you think they need it or you get an urge to cleanse them, the truth is, they probably do. It is also important to look out for changes in them, do they seem heavier, duller, dirty? If the answer to any of these is yes, then they certainly require a cleansing.
If there has been a major event in your life, a huge shift, sudden life change or surprise situation.
Before practising any new regime or ritual. This is new territory, always best to enter the unknown fully charged and equipped.
How can I cleanse my Crystals?
Lunar Bathing – Harness on the magnificent energy of the moon and charge your crystals. Leave your crystals outside in the direct moonlight on the night of a full moon. Remember some crystals are affected by water and you should cover those that can be affected appropriately if you know it is to rain or be damp over night.
Saging or Smudging – Smudging is the process of burning a cleansing material, often the choice is sage, and then fanning the smoke over your crystals, using circular motions. You may choose to cleanse each crystal individually by holding it in your dominant hand and smudging with your non dominant. Another option is to place the crystals you wish to cleanse together in a bowl, many choose to use an Abalone shell, but a metal bowl will serve the same purpose. Then smudge your crystals in the same way. Please remember to blow out any flames from your chosen smudging stick, you only want the smoke for the smudging process. Remember to be careful when burning materials and always have the means to extinguish any flames near by.
Rainwater – Remember not all crystals should be submerged in water, it is important you know that this is a safe option for your crystals before using this method. The simplest way to do this is to place your crystals out on the ground in a safe space, the lawn is a good choice, when it is due to rain, added bonus if that is also on the night of a full moon!
Burial – When a crystal becomes particularly heavy with energy, you should return it to the earth. You can bury a crystal directly in the earth ( you should consider the type of crystal, will it be hard to clear away the dirt from creases?) or you can bury them in a box. How long it needs to be buried is up to you, longer if you know this crystal has received a particularly bad energy. I always recommend leaving them over night at the least.
There are two options when cleansing with salt: dry and water.
Salt Water Bath – The first choice would be to use sea water, but you could also make your own salt water using sea salt.
Fill a glass bowl about halfway, place your crystals so they are fully submerged under the salt water. It is recommended to leave them for at least 24 hours and for a more thorough cleansing that can be left for up to a week. Thoroughly rinse your crystals in cool running water after to remove any remaining salt. Once used you must discard of the salt water never reuse it, it will have absorbed negative and unwanted energy. ( remember not all crystals can be placed into water or salt)
A Dry Salt Bath – This follows the same principle as the salt water bath. Fill a class container about halfway with salt, Sea Salt or Himalayan Salt is best. Fully submerge your crystals, leave for as long as you deem necessary but at least over night to gain any benefit. It is important to discard the used salt as it will have stored the unwanted energy from your crystals.
Stones and minerals that should be kept away from salt include Pyrite, Lapis Lazuli, Opal, Hematite, etc.
Taking the time to cleanse and recharge your crystals will have great benefits to you when using them. It will enhance their healing properties and allow you to fully appreciate their powerful energy.
Remember to take the time to research your crystals to find the right method of cleansing for them, each crystal is different and you may need to trial different methods to find the one that works best for you.
